‘River Gods’, Irish Silver Dish Ring, 2007
Dish rings have been commonplace in Ireland since the mid-1700s and this one, made in Dublin in 2007, is a wonderful homage to the tradition. These are used to protect a table from a hot dish, with designs pierced into the silver to allow airflow. Furthermore, the Irish river gods are a representation of power and protection and have been important characters of Irish mythology for thousands of years.
