When buying a diamond engagement ring you should always cast a quick eye over the girdle thickness. The edge of the diamond will either be “Bruted” or “Faceted”. Extremely thick girdles add weight to a diamond without adding beauty whereas an extremely thin girdle can leave a diamond open to chipping. Somewhere in between is the optimum.
